Hodsons Mill by S Bland 3 July 2006Can anyone say who owned/built Hodsons Mill ie. presumably Hodsons but which ones please and when?2 replies Re: Hodsons Mill by david shelton 7 July 2006I found an entry in the Encyclopedia of Brighton saying that the Hodson’s Black Mill was in West Hill Road on the site that now has garages opposite the church. It was a smock mill built around 1808-1810 and had 12 sides, and the finest structure of its kind in the country. The brick base lasted from the mill’s demolition in 1866 until 1966. I have not found anything about Hodson but enquire in the Local Studies department at Brighton. Re: Hodsons Mill by Roy Grant 14 February 2008I was born in the house next to the base of the mill (9 West Hill Road) By then the site was Fabian’s builders Yard. Fabian also owned the mill’s former sawpit opposite which had become his carpentry workshop. During the war, one of my best presents was a box load of small off cuts from there.Roy Grant Add your replyHiddenAdd your title Add your wordsWould you like to add some images (optional)?
