I’m looking for information on William Alger, Mayor of Brighton ca 1860, and his ancestors/descendants/relatives. According to the 1871 census he was my great grandmother’s uncle. My great grnadmother was Clara Brook, daughter of William and Ann Brook (nee Porter). William gives his profession at various times as pork butcher, cook and innkeeper. They had strong links with Newcastle upon Tyne and eventually settled there permanently. I’d particularly be interested in any photos.
