HORACE SKINNER by April Clark 15 May 2008Sorry, his death date should have read 21/2/ 195612 replies Re: HORACE SKINNER by Carol Homewood 15 May 2008April, Did you try the Brighton and Preston cemetery or is that the same place you have already tried? Re: HORACE SKINNER by April Clark 16 May 2008I’m afraid they were not able to help me Maralyn. I paid them £10 for a search fee and they were not able to find anything for me and even mislaid my request. I had to ring them to find out about the delay and it took 3 weeks for them to finally reply. I have just prepared a letter to the Brighton and Preston Cemetery in the hopes that they can find something. I probably will not get a reply from them till the end of next week I expect. April Re: HORACE SKINNER by April Clark 16 May 2008As yet, no, I have not tried the Brighton/Preston Cemetery because I did not know of it till yesterday evening when I phoned the Skinner Funeral Parlour asking if they had any connections. The firm was taken over apparently about 2 years ago but the very kind gentleman who answered the phone did not know of any Horace Skinner but referred me to this cemetery and Downs Crematorium. Have not done so today as I have the “mother and father” of a cold which I rather think I contracted from a flight passenger on my return from a long awaited and last holiday abroad in a 40-44 degree Egypt. Thank you for the suggestion as it did remind me to get on and do that. Kind regards. April Re: HORACE SKINNER by maralyn 16 May 2008Hi April I went to the Woodvale cemetary office a couple of years ago looking for a grave of a relative,I found them very helpful, they even gave me a map to show where my relative was buried. 01273 604020 or The woodvale lodge, lewes road, brighton, east sussex BN2 3QB. Re: HORACE SKINNER by maralyn 17 May 2008Hi April I think it was more like six years ago when I went to the little office in Lewes Road, they sent me to Woodvale lodge, where they said the records were kept.I had to look through a hand written record book to find my relative, which then referred to another book to find where they were buried.I spoke to the man who had been working there for years,he said they were starting to enter all their information to the computer,he showed me the great libruary of record books they had.He printed the area map with grave numbers, and I was able to find the grave I was looking for.I have checked to see if there was a Skinner in the small area map I have,no luck. Re: HORACE SKINNER by April Clark 18 May 2008Thank you for that Maralyn. I just cannot imagine where Horace skinner went to in the end. He and one of his daughter Victoria a widow (disappears after 1930. No further marriage or death. No children from her 3 year marriage) have been very elusive and yet he has been there all the time. I have posted to Brighton and Preston Cemetery hoping they may be able to help me. Thanks for your kind help. Very much appreciated. April Re: HORACE SKINNER by maralyn 19 May 2008Hi April It was just a thought, have you tried searching Victoria’s husband Arthur’s family,I expect you have already tried that. Maralyn Re: HORACE SKINNER by April Clark 20 May 2008Yes, Maralyn I have done that. But there are no further Records of her after Arthur Richardson died in 1929. For the 3 years Victoria was married to Arthur (his mother was my grt-grandmother which I have recently learned)she lived with grt-grandmother till Arthur died. She went back to live with her father Horace in Grosvenor St. and after 1930 I lost her completely. Though I bet she was still around somewhere. Thanks again. April Re: HORACE SKINNER by April Clark 20 May 2008Yes, Maralyn. Married Victoria Skinner 19/10/1926. Lived 16 Dyke Road Drive 3 years with his parents. Arthur died 27/9/1929. No children. Victoria went back to live with her parents shown by Electoral Reg. 1930. now completely lost her. Re: HORACE SKINNER by maralyn 20 May 2008Hi April Was Arthur born 1902? Brighton. Re: HORACE SKINNER by April Clark 27 June 2008Sorry for long delay Maralyn. I think I gave up the search but am now back with new vigour. in answer to your last request. Arthur Edwin Richardson was born 1901. He married at St. Peters Church , Preston, Brighton 9/10/1926. He died age 27 27/9/1929. His brother Reginald was the informant. After that I believe his widow Victoria went back to live with her parents 38 or 40 Grosvenor St Brighton and then seems to have disappeared. Can find no marriage, death or address where she might have moved to in Brighton as Electoral Registers seem not to give much info. Can you help me further, please?? Thank you and regards April Clark Re: HORACE SKINNER by April Clark 27 June 2008Should have said Woodvale Cemeteries have not been able to find Horaces burial place. Contacted Brighton and Preston and after 3-4 weeks have not heard from them despite 2 phone calls and a postal request with stamped addressed envelope. I know the lady said she was busy and had a pile of unopened mail so was prepared to wait. What else can I do?? Really do not want to be a nuisance by repeated phone call if they are busy.
