I thought Dave B’s last message on Steep Hills and being a Cycling Paper Boy deserved this new THREAD.
I would regularly cycle from Portslade to the Ship Street Post Office on a Sunday afternoon just to catch the 4:30pm. post so that Dad’s company mail would get to the London office for 8:00am. on Monday. Saturday and Sunday would also see me cycle out to Partridge Green for some fishing, about a 28 mile round trip. I had one of those Lucas mile-o-meters on the bike. The first year I did 4,500 miles, the second year just over the 5,000 miles then the mile-o-meter jammed at the 9999, that was its limit.
