I was looking around St Nicholas’s church yard and re-looked at Martha Gunn’s grave stone. It states on there that she was a “bather”. My understanding is that she was a “dipper” and that the male bathers were “bather”.
Strange to have got that wrong on such an important grave.
Any thoughts?
