Re: Brighton Technical Secondary School by Andy Grant 12 February 2010Hi Tony, Hanover Terrace School was built and opened in 1873 as a Council School. It remained so until after WW2, when it became the Junior Technical School of Building, under the headmaster Mr. E. Downing, BSc. In the 1950’s it became the Secondary Technical School, still under the same headmaster into the 1970’s. It later became an annexe to the College of Technology. Regards Andy Re: Brighton Technical Secondary School by Tony Mould 12 February 2010Thank you Gentlemen. Re: Brighton Technical Secondary School by Allan 12 February 2010Hi, if you look to the left you will see a heading called areas. Click it, then click Hanover and you will see a heading ‘Hanover Terrace School. Click it and you are there. I was there 1965-1970. Were you a pupil? By the way it is Secondary Techical not the other was round. Re: Brighton Technical Secondary School by Roy Grant 12 February 2010My father went to evening classes there in 1922. I still have the reference that his English teacher, a Mr Herbert Orbeel(?) wrote for him when he went for a new job. Re: Brighton Technical Secondary School by Glen Robins 13 February 2010I attended there when it was part of the Brighton College of Technology. My dad attended the same place long before me. Lovely old building, with lots of small rooms hidden away in the weirdest places. I used to have to do lab work in a laser laboratory somewhere in the heart of the building which looked to all the world just like a cleaning cupboard from the corridor, and there was a really well equiped physics lab with vacuum pumps and electron microscopes and all manner of gizmos and devices that would make Dr Frankenstein go weak at the knees! Sadly, its now no longer a school of any kind and has been turned into flats Re: Brighton Technical Secondary School by Kevin 15 February 2010Look under Schools, and Hanover Terrace, under the Places category, and you’ll see a lot of us former inmates posting memories. Re: Brighton Technical Secondary School by Kevin 15 February 2010Also, when you click on schools, the three photos at the top of the page are of BSTS.
