York Place School, Varndean and Fawcett - is this connection correct?

by Philip Dennett 16 December 2020 8:51 AM

Brighton Municipal School was highly respected and had started life as the York Place Board School in 1884 before changing its name to York Place Higher Grade School before the turn of the century. In 1905, a few years before Tommy started there, it became the Brighton Municipal School. Much later it became Varndean School, a name remembered today on another site in Surrenden Road as Varndean College and then Fawcett Secondary School.
