Extract from the diary of Margery May Barrett
From: Letter in the AtticIn her diary entries for February 25 and 26 in 1941 MMB writes that on Shrove Tuesday they had pancakes – there were no lemons but they had an orange ,and incendiaries were dropped outside Lewes. In 1943 entries include a visit to see ‘Mrs Miniver’ at the cinema which she thought ‘wonderful’, she also notes that Churchill was better having been suffering from Pneumonia. In 1944 she writes that ‘There were bombs at Plumpton the other night’ and that she heard from ‘Margery’ that they had raids in London every night for week. There were ‘No bombs here but awful gunfire’.
