He asks for his name to be put forward for the position of town crier. Tender for the erection of a groyne on Brighton beach LIA/80/02The letter is sent to the Brighton Town Commissioners by John Fabian of 5, Western Street, Brighton. He undertakes to erect a groyne eastwards of the Royal Crescent, Brighton, for £765. Job reference for John Poole to be Collector of the Town Rates, Brighton LIA/80/03The reference is from W. Hargraves of 38 East Street, Brighton. Notification by surgeon of unhealthy premises at 33 Sun Street, Brighton LIA/80/04The notication is signed by William Jewell (?), surgeon and is a standard form addressed to Lewis Slight, Clerk to the Commissioners. It states that the premises are filthy and unwholesome as a result of the privy having to be emptied and lowered. Brighton police receipt for a flogging LIA/80/05The receipt is for flogging Robert Pollard for 2 shillings and sixpence. The name Richard Martin is written on the back of the receipt. Telegram to manager of Brighton Aquarium about a replacement baritone LIA/80/06The telegram is to George Reeves Smith, Manager, Brighton Aquarium. It states: 'FOL is ill and cannot come to you today. Have sent you Mr Federic a first rate baritone. He leaves here by eleven fifty train. Have him properly announced.' It is possible the date is 7 July 1873 - the postmark is unclear. It comes ... Telegram to manager of Brighton Aquarium from Balmoral turning down request to the Queen LIA/80/07The telegram comes from General Ponsonby and is sent to George Reeves Smith. It states that the Queen cannot comply with the request (which is unspecified), having already turned down similar requests. Note from entertainer Adalbert Frikell to manager of Brighton Aquarium requesting a booking LIA/80/08In the note, Frikell claims he has everything 'new, startling and successful' in his entertainment. Note from Brothers McCann to Brighton Aquarium requesting a booking LIA/80/09The Brothers McCann are also known as Hercules and Samson, the Marvellous Muscular Men. The letter is addressed to Mr Wilkinson at the Brighton Aquarium. Printed letter recruiting Poll Clerks for Brighton Election LIA/80/10A fee of £1 and one shilling is offered. The letter is from Francis Tillstone, Town Clerk.
