Papers related to MHH (full name withheld)
From: Letter in the AtticThe papers of MHH were found in a loft at 184, Poplar Avenue, Hove, in 2008 by the contributor, Yvette Muchamore, a new resident.
He lived at Hamilton Road, Brighton in the 1930s (house number withheld) and the papers concern his extremely short (two-night) failed marriage to Mabel (no surname given), who was carrying his child, and his subsequent nervous breakdown.
The papers include:
Solicitors’ letters and details of having his ex wife followed, plus notes which he kept concerning his difficulties at the time.
Details of his being sacked as a wireless engineer by the police for being a member of the fascist party.
Numerous photos, negatives and plates including some labelled “Charlie Chaplin” – these could be someone dressed as Charlie Chaplin or photos of Charlie Chaplin himself (who visited Brighton in the 1930s).
A notebook of (the contributor believes) MHH’s father from the First World War covering various roles and terms related to the army.
Various copies of the A.E.U. monthly journal, which appears to be a professional journal, plus a notebook about engineering.
Documents including a rent book, notes of his income and baptism certificate.
