Programme of Competition Drills for Borough of Hove Fire Brigade
From: Letter in the AtticThe programme lists four competition drills; Hook Ladder; Eascape and Hydrant (Dry); Motor Pump (Dressing) Wet; Motor Pump Wet. These drills were undertaken by teams of 3, 4 or 5 men. Three of the competitions have monetary prizes for first second and third prizes. The Captain Wales Challenge Cup would be presented to the individual with the highest aggregate in the four events. Prizes were donated by various local firms and individuals, including the Mayor of Hove, the Kemp Town Brewery, the Cliftonville Press Co Ltd and many others. The Mayoress was to distribute the prizes at the end of the competition. Handwritten in pencil next to the teams are their times and placings. George Horace Turvey competed in three events.
