Charles Brewer

by Joan Cumbers 1 June 2010

My g.grandfather, can anyone help? For years I have been trying to trace his BC and whereabouts for all years. He married Elizabeth Heffron on 18/10/1871 at St Nicholas church and is shown as aged 23 and is shown as a labourer. Father given as Charles Brewer (dec’d) tailor, unable to trace anything for him either. 4 children; Charles 1873; Jesse 1875; John 1880 and Jane 1882.
Charles is not shown on any census; 1881 Elizabeth shown as head; 1891 she is shown as wife (no head given); 1901 shows her as head and 1911 as widow. No trace of a death cert., All census in Richmond St area.
As he fathered 4 children he must have been around sometime, I have tried maritime and forces registers. I found a Charles born in 1834 in St Johns Wood his occupation a fishmonger. Because of the possible connection with fish to Brighton, I wondered if the marriage could be bigamous. My approach to a genes reunited hot match was not much help.
