I clearly remember two, the Piccadilly snooker club below Burtons Tailors, 130a North Street Brighton, and Chic’s snooker and card rooms at 79a Middle Street down a dark alley.
To be quite honest, they were the dark side of Brighton, but both premises had amazing atmospheres. Many walks of life frequented these establishments and they were not for the fainthearted. Footballers, knocker boys, criminals, desirables and undesirables. Most people would put a ten shilling note onto the green baize and play and then double or nothing and so on. Just unbelievable times, the banter and the stories you could listen to all day long…
