Dyke Rd Park Cafe

by Diana M.Anstead 5 March 2010

When I was still at school a friend of my mother’s called Evelyn, who lived in Hampstead Road, opened the cafe in Dyke Road Park. This would be about 1952. It was a very small affair and during the next three summers I worked there most days. The serving area consisted of a small sink, a very small preparation space and room for an extra large kettle and teapot. Mostly we served the Brighton corporation workers and on Sat. the members of the Hove Bowling Club my father Arthur Bowyer was a member then. On my return visits to Brighton I always pop in but it doesn’t appear to have changed very much.
