FOREDOWN MEADOW CLOSE by Beverley 10 September 2009CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT WAS ON THIS LAND BEFORE HOUSES THANKS3 replies Re: FOREDOWN MEADOW CLOSE by maralyn eden 10 September 2009It might have been a farm.I’m sure Andy will know. Re: FOREDOWN MEADOW CLOSE by Andy Grant 11 September 2009Hi Beverley, I regret I have very little information on this area and can only say from 19th century maps that the area bounded by Manor Road, Foredown Road, East Hill Way and Mill Lane was just two very large fields, divided by a boundary roughly where Meadow Close is now situated. The fields may have been part of either the Manor or East Hill House Estates – there were no other buildings anywhere else on this land. As the area was developed comparatively recently, it might be better to ask older local residents about what was there within living memory. Regards Andy Re: FOREDOWN MEADOW CLOSE by Chris McBrien 11 September 2009The area of land from the east side of Mill Lane down to what was the Portslade & West Hove Golf Club was farmed/owned by the family name of Peters. That’s from 1944-ish to when Mill Lane was tarred and developed. Add your replyHiddenAdd your title Add your wordsWould you like to add some images (optional)?
