Former County Borough of Brighton & Hove by Ruth Murray 7 June 2005I am trying to find out whether Dyke Road, Hove would have been inside the Former County Borough of Brighton and Hove4 replies Re: Former County Borough of Brighton & Hove by Allan Clarkson 7 June 2005I understood that the old boundary ran up the middle of Dyke Road. However Dyke Road Park (opposite the Booth Museum) was owned by the later Brighton Borough Council not Hove. Don’t know if this helps or hinders. Re: Former County Borough of Brighton & Hove by Andy Grant 8 June 2005Ruth The 1873 Brighton Borough Extension Act incorporated the part of Preston to the east of Dyke Road for municipal purposes – the parish boundary remained the same. Prior to then Dyke Road formed a part of the Boundary. Regards Andy Re: Former County Borough of Brighton & Hove by David Hibberd 22 August 2005Dyke Road Hove was within the Borough of Hove, the road continues East into the former COUNTY Borough of Brighton terminating just short of The Clock Tower, Brighton. Re: Former County Borough of Brighton & Hove by Tony Hagon 20 April 2007I’m not sure of my facts here, but I always believed that Hove Borough was the next local government level below Sussex County Council (note NOT East Sussex in those days pre 1974) whereas CB Brighton was an administrative body equivalent to a county and was therefore not responsible to Sussex CC.
