Does anyone remember Miller’s Pies just up Bear Road on the left?
I can smell and taste them now – shiny short crust with gravy ooing out. When,as children – I lived in Milner Road until I was five (1953) but continued at Coombe Rd School until aged 11 – if we stopped to buy a pie, we would knock on the stable door, rather than going in the shop. I don’t know why we did that. Perhaps it was when the shop was closed but, if it was, I don’t remember anyone moaning at us for doing so.
Mmm, I could eat one now.
