"Mrs POTTER; circa 1857 - 1876.

by Tim Sargeant 26 November 2007

We are trying to trace a “Mrs Potter” with whom my wife’s Gt gt Grandfather lived (or was farmed out to, and who was paid to look after him)in the Brighton area when he was a child c1857 to 1876. His name was John Humphries, born 24 Oriental Place 1857 to Elizabeth Sarah Humphries. (Of whom we have also been unable to find any earlier or later trace so far.) He may have been at boarding school during term time in the Brighton / Lewes area and was trained in the drapery trade and very well provided for. Neither of them appear in the 1861 or 1871 censuses but John is in St James’s Street in 1881. Any assistance appreciated. TCS.
