Pan in Dyke Road Park by Edward 4 July 2007No answers yet to my query about Pan in Dyke Road Park? Come on you people.7 replies Re: Pan in Dyke Road Park by Carol Homewood 4 July 2007No, sorry. I did ask my husband as he used to play there when he was a child in the seventies but he doesn’t remember a statue of Peter Pan being there. Re: Pan in Dyke Road Park by Pat Benham 4 July 2007Trying to think back to the 1940s. There was some kind of stone pillar with something on it in the middle of the rose garden below the wall just to the west of the cafe. There was also a small fountain or basin against the wall. Really not sure if either depicted Peter Pan and don’t remember any other features of that sort anywhere else in the park. Re: Pan in Dyke Road Park by Edward 5 July 2007Thanks for your response. It was in fact not a Peter Pan but the Greek God of fertility and flocks- Pan.I remember that he was playing his pipes. Re: Pan in Dyke Road Park by Edward 5 July 2007Thanks Pat,thats exactly as I remember it.Pan was placed on a stone pillar playing his pipes. He had horns and the characteristic goats feet.Poor old Pan was one of the models for the devil during post pagan period.Thats been really helpful and more or less confirms it.What I need to know now is whether it is still there. Can anyone else help? Re: Pan in Dyke Road Park by Carol Homewood 5 July 2007I was in the park a few weeks ago. We walked around the rose gardens but I can’t say I spotted a statue.(not that I was looking for one at the time) Next time we go up there, I’ll look out for it, and if it’s there I’ll take a photo. (that’s if it ever stops raining!) Re: Pan in Dyke Road Park by Edward 6 July 2007Thank you that would be very kind.I remember well the rose garden in the rain,it smells rather nice.
