The building extends through to Steine Lane, where the Pavilion Vaults Wine bar and “shades” was situated. Regards Andy Re: pavillion tavern by j 17 February 2005thank you for your reply how did you find your information? Re: pavillion tavern by Bernardo 17 February 2005I have some jolly memories of the Pavilion Tavern and Shades Bar in the 1970’s. The bar was run by two or three rather jolly elderly ladies.Conversly customers were in their teens and twenties. Re: pavillion tavern by Andy Grant 19 February 2005There are a number of sources, but primarily:- “Fashionable Brighton”, 1820-1860 Antony Dale “Encyclopaedia of Brighton”, Timothy Carder I have transcribed most Brighton directories, which gives a fairly accurate dating scale for most developments. Regards Andy Re: pavillion tavern by Hilary 6 October 2006I see many references to the Pavilion Tavern near Castle square but I have an ancestor who was the licensee of the Pavilion Tavern in Edward Street (no 3) in 1901. I cannot find any info on this pub – any help much appreciated. Re: pavillion tavern by Carol Hardy 10 November 2007I had my 21st birthday party at the Pavilion Tavern in 1970 Re: pavillion tavern by Roy Grant 11 March 2008I used to be a regular in The Pav in the 1960s. It had a lovely character called Brian “Dillon” McNally who sat on the stool in the corner and sketched the customers on the backs of old menus. I still have two as I consider them and the prices historical documents. In 1965 I had my wedding reception upstairs there in their mock tuder room.
