Railway at Amherst Crescent by Jill Simkins 12 April 2005Does anyone have any photos of the railway from the Amherst end of the railway that went to Devil’s Dyke.3 replies Re: Railway at Amherst Crescent by Nick Catford 17 April 2005Try the book Railways of Devils Dyke by Paul Clark. Turntable Publications ISBN0 902844 35 0. It has plenty of pictures of the Devils Dyke Branch line. You might also find my web site of use http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/stations/d/dyke/index.shtmlandhttp://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/stations/g/golf_club_halt_sussex/index.shtml Re: Railway at Amherst Crescent by Gordon Dinnage 26 January 2006There are a few about of the DYKE JUNCTION, little otherwise, but a good book to reccomend is Dyke Railway by Peter A Harding. I provided a few photos for the book, a very good series on Southern England branch lines & aside from the railway & some in depth info, the photos show the scenes of the respective lines. Have two that show Loco or a coach going by back of Rowan. Re: Railway at Amherst Crescent by Stu Berry 1 May 2006There are many photos of the Dyke terminus within various books/publications, but sadly little else of the line itself. I believe this is partly due to the early closure of the line on 31st Dec 1938 and also the fact that much of the now built over route, consisted at that time of fields and farmland. The Brighton Regency Society hold ‘The James Gray Collection’, some 15 or so photo albums containing many historic photos of Brighton & Hove, which include many rare views of the Dyke line. They have begun the process of making some of these photos available on-line, so hopefully these fascinating photos will become more widely available to the general public in the not too distant future.I do though, have a couple of oral interviews with users of the line, one of which is very detailed, which I will transcribe and make available to this site as soon as I get the time! In the meantime, if anyone reading this has any unpublished photos or recollections of using the line, I would love to hear from you.
