I would appreciate any information about the licence history of this pub. An entry in The Brighton Gazette 17 Dec 1903 shows the licence was transferred from William Henry Button to William Mills Curd. But when did W H Button acquire it? In the 1890s he was in Australia, running the Phillip Island Hotel at Cowes, near Melbourne, but returned to the UK in late 1900. Did he acquire the licence immediately or was it some time later? (btw – W H Button was the father of William H.G. Button, mayor of Brighton in 1962-63)
