The Joke in the Royal Pavilion!

by Roy Grant 6 September 2010

Having nowhere else to put this “Note” I thought I would pass it on even though I have no idea whether there is any truth in it.
James Gray, Volume 21, image 161, shows Cheesman’s China shop in North Road (known to have been in existance since 1822).
It is purported that Mr Cheeseman, who started the shop, also provided the Prince Regent with many Chinese artifacts for the Royal Pavilion, and that the large portrait of the “China-man” in the Royal Pavion is actually the shop owner.
