The other underground river

by Roy Grant 14 June 2008

I know the Brapple runs underground from Patcham, becomes the Wellesbourne in Preston and then makes its way to the sea, but could someone put a name to the other river that runs under the Lewes Road and joins the above near the Level?

I know of several wells that tap into it, five of which were under the old Preston Barracks, the former Fryco mineral water well, and also major wells from the pumping stations at Falmer and Hollingdean, but I cannot recall whether a name has ever been given to this other river.
