Diary by Hinda Harris, 1941
From: Letter in the AtticThe diary records how, in January, HH and her family leave Swindon and return to Hove. Also mentions air-raid warnings and food shortages. Throughout the year HH goes to the cinema very frequently and comments briefly on the films. Also attends lectures. Often mentions weather and clothes- on June 1st describes clothes rationing as ‘Biggest bombshell on the home front.’ On her 25th birthday (May 10th) writes ‘Wonder if I shall be 26?!!’
Note that the transcript of this diary is not comprehensive. The transcript was made by HH’s niece, Sophie Harris, who selected the entries which she felt were most interesting.
