From: Letter in the AtticIn her diary entries for April 19 and 20 MMB writes in 1941 that on the 19th the siren went five times whilst she was on duty, on April 20 1941 the siren went twice and there was a heavy raid on London in the night. In 1942 MMB visited London attending a service at Westminster Abbey and writing ‘London with her honourable scars is wonderful’ . In 1943 she ‘Went to see the bomber wreck again’ In 1944 the sirens went at about 1am and she went on guard duty with Irene (her sister) there were ‘Bumps in the distance’, and a plane came down at Brighton.
