“On 26th March 2020 the government introduced new public health regulations strengthening police enforcement powers in England, to reduce the spread of the corona virus, protect the NHS and save lives.

Part of those powers include instructing individuals and groups to go home or leave an area. If they do not comply they can be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £60.

Police in Brighton issued more than 50 fixed-penalty notices to day-trippers who came from outside the county.

Sitting on the beach, in a park or even on a bench goes against the regulations and this Easter Weekend police can be seen to approach individual people or groups.”
