Letter from John Leech to Amelia Rose Leech from France
From: Letter in the AtticWritten from a partially ruined farmhouse recently held by the Germans. JL writes that he is glad that England has not suffered in the way that France and Belguim have. He writes of burning villages recently passed through, ‘the desolation is pitiful to see’ as they ‘have been hurrying up behind the Huns’.JL’s Regiment have been awarded five military medals. He talks of facing ‘all the little trials out here because thoughts of you keep me so bright’. This in the last letter in which he mentions the baby as ARL lost the baby she was carrying in late September/early October.
