Childrens' train ride - Hove
Stephen Morley

Does anyone else here remember riding the little trains on Hove seafront?

The photograph below shows me in the front, with my brother in the distance.

The photo was taken in the late sixties.

  • There are already a number of comments and an alternative photo of the Hove Lagoon train ride on this site, under the Seafront/Hove Lagoon heading.

  • Were these moved to the Aquarium later or was that a different railway? The locomotives look exactly the same but the Aquarium ones were getting a little the worse for wear. Somewhere I think I’ve got a photo of them. I believe they were replaced by a vintage car ride later on, replicas of Bullnose Morris cars. That was about the time that the Motor Museum was there as well.

  • I remember the little trains very well. My parents used to take my brother and I to the lagoon regularly in the late 1940’s and early 50’s.
We lived in St Leonards Avenue for a few years before moving to Hangleton but the train was a real treat in those days.

  • To Janet Snelling,
I lived at 9 St Leonard’s Avenue from 1949 until about 1958 or 59 and also well remember the trains at Hove Lagoon, where we used to go frequently. Coincidentally we also subsequently moved to Hangleton Poplar Avenue, to be precise.
