I think the modern building on the right was built about 1966, I can remember playing on it as a building site, not much H&S concerns back then to stop a young lad, and the night watchman didn’t start till late! I think the West Pier closed about 1975, so the photo dates between those years!
Oh how times do change! Although most of the cars in this photo can’t be positively identified, those that I can make out were all made in England. Three or four Fords, a minivan and a Mini, Triumph 2000, a Bedford ambulance and even an Austin A40 pedal car at the fairground. We often used to go to the Regency Restaurant which is just to the left, off camera.
In ‘Regency Square: its history & and its stories’ by Gill Wales & Suzanne Hinton[2018], they give the date for the new Abbotts flats, on the SE corner of Regency Square, as 1961/62.
