"This prize winning shot is of the landing stage at the Palace Pier. At the far end, this was the stage used by the paddle steamer Waverley plying between Isle of Wight, Eastbourne and Brighton. It was also used by speedboats giving trips, and anglers catching more fish than today's anglers can dream about! Sadly this is another victim of cost cutting and/or neglect by those responsible for the maintenance of the pier, and the landing stage no longer exists."

It has no images of the Brighton Pier now!
I worked on the ironwork in 1937 for six months, knocking off rust and barnacles. It was freezing work, brushing the snow away first – a two pairs of trousers job. Getting down on the ropeladder was great fun and working from scaffold boards. There was no health and safety those days!
