The Mayor celebrates Chinese New Year

The Mayor, Councillor Carol Theobald and her consort Geoffrey Theobald OBE were entertained to lunch today as part of the Chinese New Year Celebrations.  Their host was Mr Xuexian Bei, Chairman of the UK China Cultural Association.

This year’s celebrations are unique in that they represent the first year of a long-term collaborative project between Brighton & Hove Chinese Society, the Chinese Educational Development Project, Brighton & Hove City Council and Arts Council England, as well as a range of other arts organisations within the city.

The project aims to bring communities together, promote an awareness and appreciation of Chinese culture and the arts through educational projects in schools and the community, and to present a high quality programme of traditional and cutting edge contemporary work fusing western and Chinese influences.
