Alzheimer's Society Memory Walk
Two thousand walkers
Two thousand people rallied together to join the fight against dementia at Alzheimer’s Society’s Brighton Memory Walk. The walk was the biggest that Sussex has ever hosted, with four-times the number of walkers compared to last year. Money raised from the event currently stands at almost £90,000 – with donations still coming in.
24,000 dementia sufferers in Sussex
Over 24,000 people across Sussex are living with dementia, with almost 10% of these based in Brighton and Hove. Jess Goodwin, Memory Walk Officer for Sussex, said: “Brighton Memory Walk has been such an inspiring day! People of all ages and abilities stepped out together with a shared commitment to help people affected by dementia in our community.”
Wide range of support
The Alzheimer’s Society provides a wide range of support services across Sussex for people affected by dementia, including Dementia Support Workers, Singing for the Brain music sessions and Dementia Cafés. The charity hopes to raise £150,000 from the event, which will help to support services like these, as well as fund ongoing research to ultimately find a cure.
