Needs of young people
Young people, volunteers staff and supporters of the Crew Club have come together to celebrate the 18th Birthday of the club in style at a tea party in the Mayor’s Parlour. Founded in 1999 by a group of local parents for local young people , the club has provided a safe place to meet , a huge range of activities and help support and advice for many hundreds of young people as they prepare for adult life .
Purpose built centre
For many years the club operated out of a tin hut crammed with things to do and full to the brim with young people. To meet the huge demand in 2007 the club moved into a purpose built youth and community centre designed by young people in the area.
Meeting the needs of local young people
“ The club is always changing to meet the needs of local young people, families and the wider community “ said Mrs Lorraine Snow MBE, one of the club’s founders and manager of the club. Today , the club offers youth sessions, music, arts, drama, a girls group, after school sessions for primary aged children, a boxing club , sports , the use of a fully equipped kitchen, a messy play session for toddlers , advice and help with school, relationships, work, family, housing and all the issues that affect young people.
