Very special date

This year, being the 70th anniversary of VJ day which commemorates the Japanese surrender and the end of WWII, special services and ceremonies have been staged all over the country. The Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Lynda Hyde, the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Peter Field, and the High Sheriff of East Sussex, Juliet Smith, joined veterans and representatives of local organisations at a ceremony in East Hill Park, Portslade to mark this very special date.

Java FEPOW 42

The event was organised by the Java Far East Prisoners of War (FEPOW) 42 Club, which was formed over thirty years ago by WWII veterans who had been captured in Java in 1942. Their aim is to offer support, friendship, advice and information to any FEPOWs and their families; you can visit their website here.
